Availability of WD TV Live Hub

It happens often with good products that are out of production.  My guess is that the higher price is dangled out there (not by Amazon, but by other sellers either at Amazon, or eBay) to the person who wanted one, but never got one originally as a last chance situation; or to the person who had one once, but it died, got stolen, or lost in the divorce and they just gotta have another exact one!

Hi I’m new here and just discovered the Hub. Question, are they discontinued? I’m looking for a 2tb.

Not sure if it has been officially discontinued, but since the last firmware update was in July and it’s not it stock in most stores, including the official WD store, one might conclude it’s near end of life.

So what are my options? My TV isn’t DNLA compliant so I can’t use a NAS. I need a device with HDMI…

I found this QNAP TS-119P II…thoughts?

Your option is to buy the Streaming Media Player (SMP), and attach a two TB external drive to one of the USB ports.

The original Hub, 1TB model, was replaced a few months back by two other models; a 500GB and a 2TB model.  If the newer models are not available anymore, I have no idea why.

They seem to be out of stock at all the usual suspects including the WD website. When you do find them online from random unknown resellers (any of the models), the pricing has gone through the roof. Something is going on, but not sure what it it either.

have a look on ebay

Bought mine a few weeks ago at Memory Express, 180 buks in Canada.  Didn’t seem to be a supply probem, but I didn’t hang around to ask.  Local stores… find one close… go pick it up.

Whoops! Too late!

Nahhhh.  Dropdown box shows Vacouver has 3 Winnepeg has 6 Pretty sure they ship, too.

Online inventory numbers a often wrong.  Call the store and get the up to date inventory.  Ask someone to LOOK.

Well, I think we can put this question to rest.

The Hub no longer appears on WD’s main web site:

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/homeentertainment/mediaplayers/

So it’s been discontinued.

I am saddened to know that future WDers will never know the greatness of having an internal drive in their media player.

I’m hoping they took it down for a new version of the player some where down the road

Absolutely, the hub is an underpowered device and is in bad need of a refresh. The darn thing is 4 years old so let’s get with it and give us an updated Live Hub 2. So much has changed in chipsets and performance since the hub was released it’s like night and day. Anything new should be fantastic, looking forward to having a fast modern-day device.

Yeah and lets get away from that naming convention (WDTV LIVE XXX). Try something less confusing for your customers like “The WD Stream Machine HD” or “WD Vision HD” or The WD Androvision HD" (Hoping for Andoid). Anything else the consumer needs to know about it can go on the box it’s packaged in!

Well, not quite, but close…  It released in October of 2010. But the point’s still valid.  Three years is pretty long-in-the-tooth for any media player…

*IF* there is a new player, I doubt it’ll be any “faster”, as with more capabilities, they would probably cram a lot more stuff in it to slow it down.

Well, WD better pick up their game and start making Media Players with Dual / Quad Core Processors as most modern devices feature this. (eg. Smart Phones, Tablets, Ouya, MX2 Midnight etc etc)
