Alternatives to Live Hub?

Does anyone know of an alternative to WD’s Live Hub? I haven’t been able to get this to work and would really like a drive that I can connect to my TV and stream movies.

I searched google but it’s dominated completely by Western Digital. I think there may be a Seagate system out there, but does anyone know of a device that has the same capabilities (but actually works) as the Live Hub?

Not on the same level. They either go full internet (Like Roku) or full local and have horrible internet services.

Doesn’t Seagate offer something though?

No they don;t, but you are free to look for yourself:  http://www.seagate.com/

Maybe you ought to get some help here for your WD unit.  Lots of helpers in this forum.

259.00 and it’s a dual core? C’mon…I have a Tronsmart T428 TV Stick that has a quad core and it was 79.00…

really? Can you play blue ray iso files with it? Does it play DSD files? Does it have a DAC onboard? And how does that DAC work? On USB? How much jitter does it produce?

I am sure that you are happy with the quad core but it certainly is not a good way to measure the quality and diversity of a product by the amount of cores that it has.

I agree the price is a little high but when you start digginn into the popcornhour I hear a lot of positive things about it. So I am tempted to buy it. It can also serve as a NAS.

However I am not tempted to buy the Tronsmart T428 TV Stick…

The A400 is almost equal to the A410 exept the A410 has more memory and better audio, it seems.

take care of the hub if you have one, cause there is nothing yet to beat it, or if your after one good luck, like gold dust

fleabay might have a few though

PopcornHour is a product that has come and gone.  Get reviews from reputable sources of RECENT products and find their forum and find out what users have to say.  Nuff said.

Well shut my mouff…well what would one expect for 59.00?

Now I’ll go try a bluray iso and see what happens…curious…

As for DSD, I’m not an audiophile so I have no need for it and as I’m an old man (63) I’m sure I have some loss of hearing and would never notice any difference vs. an mp3 file.

I waited years for someone to develop something like the Live Hub.  It’s the only device that truly plays every possible format I need.  The built in TB HDD was a cherry on top.  At the time I was looking for a TV equivalent of VLC media player and this nailed it.  It would’ve been just fine without the HDD and all the other built in bells and whistles as I simply use it to stream media from my NAS, but having the capacity to store media to take with me on vacation is fantastic.  I did alot of research over the years and bought many similar devices and there’s simply nothing like it still to this date.  I’m a huge WD fan so thanks for this fantastic product.

My only gripe is that I’ve had it for several years now with no real issues except the spinning arrow of death started occuring recently at odd times.  Weird thing is that I installed the last firmware update way back in October 2013 and oddly the spinning arrow of death just began occuring a few weeks ago.  After several days messing with it and downgrading the firmware it started working again.  WD tech support said “The device is becoming defective” :confounded:  I hate when tech support reps make those comments because they’re not sure what the problem is and it’s easier to make the consumer think they need to go out and buy another one.  I own several of these and I will not replace them until they’re truly unusable.
