mp4 issues on wd tv live, with good diagnostic info, please help, bug?

Hi,

I’ve converted a bunch of home video taken with our digital camera from avi to mp4 with avconv, copy video/transcode audio.

This seemed to work great, however I find a whole bunch of the videos won’t play on the WD TV live, latest firmware.  It plays them in a fashion after around 30 seconds the audio starts and either blank screen with artifacts appears, with the occastion stuttering audio.

However these files work fine playing with movie player on ubuntu 12.1.

Output of mediainfo on a problem file is below…

Any ideas?

Cheers

Miles

I would assume that its a something to do with the video format. Just because it has an mp4 extension does not mean that the WD player will play it correctly, it has to be encoded properly. What was wrong with original avi file. Are you playing them from a connected drive or from a network? Software players are able to play files which are badly encoded unlike hardware players.

Yep, i agree. I want to use mp4 as thats compatible across most of our devices, ie iphone/ipad etc…

Perhaps you could use a program that encodes both video and audio correctly to mp4.

Maybe Winff or even better Handbrake.
