Re: WDTV Live Limited Public Beta 1.03.38_V (8/11/10)

100% removing and reinserting the power adapter is solving HDMI issue! I've done this every time and worked every time! Unfortunately, problem reappear after some time.

Can't tell about removing HDMI cable - never try it. It's more simple to remove power adapter than to remove HDMI cable :smileywink:

Another question for those of you with HDMI issues in the beta firmware: Have you tried unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in, or unplugging the WDTV's power cable and plugging it back in? Was there any improvement?

Ok, this is what I do.
I set HDMI(1080p 60Hz) in settings, then TV shows 1920x1080@60Hz. Then I turn off both WD and TV with remote. 10 minutes later I power on both of them (no matter which one first), the TV shows 1280x720@50Hz, in WD settings it is still HDMI(1080p 60Hz). Then I:

a) choose again the same: 1080p 60Hz, RGB High (or YCbCr). The screen goes black for a second, after that it shows again 1920x1080@60Hz.
b) unplug the power cable and plug it back in, after bootup the TV shows 1920x1080@60Hz and in the WD settings there is HDMI(1080p 60Hz).
c) unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in, the TV shows 1280x720@50Hz, but WD settings HDMI(1080p 60Hz).

When I initaly set HDMI(Auto), everything is the same, except the TV shows 1920x1080@50Hz.

The HDMI deep color remains 12bit all the time.

So only the standby makes trouble (when I turn off the WD with remote). In standby the TV doesn't loose the signal, it gets a black screen from WD.

If I leave the TV on while WD is off (standby), then it is ok, the resolution doesn't  change.

Also, disappointed that the WDTVLive+ shows up with netflix support a few months after I spent the same amount of money for the WDTVLive.

We're not going down this road again, are we?  That's such a tired discussion...

All my ISO files work fine on other devices/computers, so it's not the files, it's definitely the WD firmware.

Not necessarily...  I count it the other way.   If the WDTV cannot play it, there's SOMETHING WRONG with the Rip.   I've ripped over 400 of my DVDs so far, and not a SINGLE ONE has an issue.

It's been proven here time and time again that certain methods of ripping DVDs will yield files with navigation malfunctions and so forth, then the user switches to a different ripping software, and voila, it all works.

If something was wrong with my RIP, why would it play with the .21 firmware?  Why do the menu's work, but the movie never plays.  CLICK play on the menu, the FBI, CIA, etc warnings come up, then the disc returns to the main menu (as if it was stuck in some sort of loop) I've also tried viewing the movie by chapter, and when I click play on a chapter, it returns to the main menu.

So if all your RIPs are perfect, and my software is the issue, what's the solid software to use for the RIPs?

Rolling back again. Seems we either get chapters or surround sound but not both....... still...

This patience thing is getting old.

Re: WDTV Live Limited Public Beta 1.03.38_V (8/11/10)

Thanks. I've gone back and checked the 'issues' with ISOs that people have experienced, and I've experienced none of those 'issues'.  I use AnyDVD, which a TON of people have recommended as a solution to others w/ issues, and like I said, they play fine, but the menu's don't work on some of the DVDs with the Betas (and inconsistent results between the two betas as well), so I find it hard to believe it's the files themselves.

The ISOs work fine with .21 firmware, I can play all of the movies w/o a problem.  Anyway I'm getting frustrated w/ the beta, and I'll patiently wait for the GA release of the software and try it, but if things aren't cleared up, I'll probably check out other options.  The ASUS seems like a solid device and searching for issues w/ it reading ISOs comes up practically clear, where if you search this forum, there were 20+ pages of people having some sort issue...

Re: WDTV Live Limited Public Beta 1.03.38_V (8/11/10)

Tully, prior to MENU support, ISO was only used as a "CONTAINER."   The WDTV would simply look inside the container and scan the VOB files and play the MPEG streams within.   PGC's were completely ignored.

When MENU support is used, the WDTV opens the ISO, parses the IFO files to put together the list of PGCs (Program Guide Chains).   If there's ANYTHING wrong with the PGC blocks, or if the IFO files aren't correct, the menu navigation WILL NOT FUNCTION correctly.

I had this issue with MANY rippers.   I used to use DVD Decrypter almost exclusively, then I'd re-burn using Nero Recode.

I made about 60 - 70 backups using this method for use in our Minivan so that heat wouldn't destroy my originals.  Seldom had a problem.

However, when I ripped THOSE backups back to ISO, several programs malfunctioned:  Handbrake and WDTV to name a couple, while VLC wouldn't have an issue with them.

When I ripped the the ORIGINALs using the above method, problems remained.

When I ripped the ORIGINALS using DVDFab, I never had another problem, unless there were Read Errors that DVDFab "thought" it corrected for.

The DVD Navigation features required a new SDK from Sigma.  WD has already said that during the first 1.03 beta.  I don't know why an SDK would be required, but that's the "Official Word," like it or not...

If you want to foment a new conspiracy, that's fine.

I want you to cut down on the hysterics. And I'll believe anything with proof.

Whatever - I report bugs when I find them.
