Hi,

Hi,

I have a LG LH35 LCD tv, Auto works OK, but just like you when I turn my WD TV LIVE player off, the HDMI signal remains.

WD doesn't seem to have tackled this issue at all in the betas. (At least the release notes don't talk about it).

I wonder if they've tested it on a LG LCD TVs as its quite a coincidence that we are both having that issue on the

same brand of TV.

Surely WD are a big enough corporation to get a loan unit from LG ?

Dear Joels,

Could you elaborate on how your WD TV Live behaves with your TV when you select auto? Does it start with 1080p or 720p? Is this starting resolution consistent even if you plug the WD TV Live off and on (after some minutes)?

Regards

Re: WD TV Live Limited Public Beta Version 1.03.42 (10/11/10)

My setup is

WDTV Live  -> HDMI Switch -. Yamaha RX-V1900 - Sony LCD TV
One nice thing about the Yamaha is it tells you what it's seeing on the digital inputs.
HDMI audio is still not right.
Stereo Mpeg audio is fine.

Test video 1
AC-3 2 channel, 192 kbps, 48 kHz,

receiver says the bitstream is PCM 2 channel

audio worked

(But I expect to see 2 channel AC3 here)

In fact PCM 2 channel Audio comes out the HDMI port even when the WDTV is set to Digital without HDMI.

Test video 2
AC-3 5.1 (ie 6 channel) 192kBps, 48.kHz

WDTV audio set to stereo:

receiver says the bitstream is pcm 2 channel

audio comes out in stereo

WDTV audio set to hdmi

receiver says the bitstream is pcm 2 channel

but no audio at all

WDTV Audio set to Digital without Hdmi

Nothing on the receiver. In other words the bitstream dropped. (Because it went out the optical interface.)

In other words it never sends the original  bitstream to the receiver via HDMI.

The old firmware (1.02.21)  did the right thing. Sent the bitstream to the receiver correctly.

It does work from the optical output which is good in that at least I can work around it but a shame because I had a 1 cable solution with the WDTV live before this update.

I do love the DVD menu navigation and the change in default thing you go to for locally connected drives (it defaults to folders instead of all video)

Thanks for the input.

I was half hoping that the rollback firmware would do this!

I really hope that there is a solution soon

This is also discussed here: http://community.wdc.com/t5/General-Discussions/Downmixing-AC3-2-0-to-PCM-why/td-p/49558

But, it has nothing to do with the new (beta-) firmware.

Cheers,

Still major problems with this upgrade

Original upgrade done and the WD logo comes on screen and then nothing (as i put yesterday).

Tried using the rollback firmware and nothing (mainly due to not seeing a display on the screen).

HELP, what the hell can i do?  I was loving the media player and now it seems that, due to this upgrade, i will never be able to use it again!!!

Connect to your TV using the composite cable. If you are using HDMI cable then its possible that due to the handshaking problems your display is not recognised. If you have further problems then start a new thread otherwise your posts will get lost in this thread.

To reset your unit you should press the button for about 1 second. 10 seconds or more will change from PAL to NTSC or vice versa.

The HDMI problem has nothing to do with any firmware updates or betas,

Yes it clearly has - I didn't have a problem until patch 1.03.35

Re: WD TV Live Limited Public Beta Version 1.03.42 (10/11/10)

Upgraded and did factory reset. Came up with 720p 50Hz on TV, HDMI (720p50Hz) in WDTV settings (weiird, would think a factory reset should put it to HDMI(Auto)? Changed to HDMI(Auto) and power cycle -> still 720p 50Hz on TV, and HDMI (Auto) in WDTV settings.

All my other devices come up as 1080i 50Hz on TV. Never had to edit HDMI settings in any device before (not even sure if most devices have such settings), it just works (tm). You should get help or something.

Re: WD TV Live Limited Public Beta Version 1.03.42 (10/11/10)

Hi I'm the newest  in the forum from Germany. At the first time excused my English, isn't errorfree.

For all users with the problem "blank screen" after the WD Logo. I had the same problem and was not amused. Connect to your TV using the composite cable. Then check your HDMI settings. If you have "Deep Color Mode" set to 12 bit then switch back to 8 bit. With this setting I have a HDMI resolution up to 1080p at a TV Philips 52 inch. You can set HDMI to "Auto", it's works. My last firmware was wdtvlive_1.03.22. In this version the Deep Color Mode works with 12 bit.

Or not and now it's implanted - WD knows.

Re: WD TV Live Limited Public Beta Version 1.03.42 (10/11/10)

WD didn't saw too many problems they will cause due to 12bit setting.

As long as this is a pointless setting, they better choose to loose it in the future!

There's no benefits but only problems! So us/they had a better life without it!
