.avi video runs, with no sound. Gen 2 hardware

So, I’ve played every possible HD 1080p video I have, ts, tp, mkv, avi, you name it. TV rips, music videos, It all works well with perfect sound. That means the hardware set-up is correct, so one variable excluded.

Then when I play this HD video I downloaded from this Music site (GomTV), it goes wrong. First there will be about 20 seconds of blank nothing, no sound, no picture. Then the video appears, fast forwarding to catch up to it’s current time, still with no sound. Then after it’s reach the correct time, it plays at normal speed, but still with no sound.

As I mentioned before, other HD avi’s have played perfectly with no problem. However, this particular .avi is a problem.

All music videos downloaded from this Music site (GomTV) show the same symptoms, and same problems. Every other HD .avi that I have works fine.

There probably isn’t a solution, but can someone tell me what’s happening/wrong ?

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

To Contact WD for Technical Support

I contacted WD & spoke to a technician. He said to reset it & I did, but it still has the same problems.

I tried giving him more technical details like the codec and such, be he didn’t seem to sure himself what was wrong.

He did say to send it in if the problem persists, but when I told him 97% of the HD videos I watch work fine, & it’s only this one batch of HD videos from this music site, He said it’s probably the codec.

These videos work fine on my laptop, it’s only on the WDTV that the problem occurs, & only with this batch of videos. It can’t be an erroneous codec since it works fine on my laptop.

Are there certain videos the WDTV can’t play?

Not 100% sure but I seem to recall there being an issue with the WD TV Live and videos with 44.1Khz MP3 audio.

Try converting the audio track to 48Khz and see if that plays.

I found the thread and the solution:

Solution was posted by me, my memory is terrible.  :D
