Vssvc.exe errors after upgrading to Windows 8 Pro causing audio buzzing with video stalling

After upgrading from Win 7 to Win 8 Pro, all kinds of video and music playback occaissionally split-second stalls with audio buzzing.  After anylyzing the Event Viewer, everytime the buzzing/stalling happens, a corresponding Volume Shadow Copy error appeared. (C:\windows\system32\vssvc.exe error was recorded). I disconnected the WD Passport via the USB connector and the problem went away.  So my question to the community is: Do I uninstall and reinstall the Smartware software?  Is there Smartware software specifically for Windows 8?  Anyone run into this problem yet?  Thanks, JK.

Disconnecting the passport and uninstalling the software are two totally different things

you can uninstall the software and see if the problem will stop or you might want to try stopping the backup

I don’t see why you should have any issues with the files on the computer because the drive is connected
