WD Quick View not working

I have been trying to go through the User Guide and set everything up properly (difficult since the guide does not always reflect what I see when I follow the steps).  I have gotten to the part where it talks about using Quick View…my Quick View does not do anything AT ALL.  I have tried hovering over it, right clicking, left clicking, trying to open it, trying to open it’s location to see if I could find something else - still, nothing.  I finally tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the learning center and not changing any file/ folder names or locations…still nothing.  I double click to open it, it does nothing.  Please help.

Thank you.

If you are using Windows do you have it showing in the Taskbar? If it is when you place your mouse pointer at it you should see this. See image below.

If you click on it even more info/choices should pop up. See images below.

No, it does not install on my taskbar (I’m assuming you mean the little strip at the bottom of the screen?).  When it showed up in my start menu as a new program, I right clicked to pin to taskbar and it did, but the icon on the taskbar still did nothing.  I tried all of the same things after I uninstalled and redownloaded/ extracted and ran…still nothing.

If you are running Windows I am talking about the bottom right of the window. Click on the Show hidden icons button and then Customize as shown in image below.

Choose the following, Show icon and notifications, for WD Quick View as shown in image below.

THANK YOU!!! IT WAS THERE…don’t I feel stupid…I looked everywhere – else.

't feel stupid, I have the same problem, the con shows on the task bar but does nothing. I mouse over it I get:

“WD Quick view” I right or left click it I get: a little popup that says “About Quick View”… If Iclick that only choice Iget a popup that gives me the:

Version, 2.4.2

WD Quick View 3.2.4.12

WD Drive Service 2.2.0.19

the copyright notice

and two links

End user agreement & Privacy Policy

And it does nothing else…

I have reinstalled it and get nothing still

Oh and I should add, I’m using XP (sp3)… I have tried installing on another computer also using XP (sp3) with the same results. Is there a version that works on XP

I too have this problem with Quickview also, using Windows XP SP3. It worked fine when I initially installed it but stopped working about a week ago. I have tried reinstalling Quickview but it still does not work. WD Smartware also does not recognise the My Cloud drive (although it does recognise the hard drive attached to my computer). I can access My Cloud through the browser and Dashboard. I tried re-running the the on-line setup installer but this also could not detect the My Cloud drive. Any suggestions?

Well, something changed in the last update I suppose… My quickview is now working on all my XP(SP3) computers…

I have just installed the new firmware update for the Mycloud but Smartware still not recognising it! Did you you reinstall the Smartware software after the firmware update??

ditto, I get exactly the same on my windows 8.1  it used to work flawlessly, unsure when it stopped working. my only 2 options are “About WD quick view” and “exit”  Is there a solution and has WD acknowleded an issue.

Same issue for me. As far as I can tell nothing has changed. I have to map drives using an IP address now.

Same. After going to Windows 10, updating the app (which it recommended) all I now see is"About, WD Smartware and Exit". No drive info.

It was working fine before i updated the app. I have uinstalled and still no joy.

hello guys, i have the same problem, but it’s working now. My network has changed from private to public.
YOU MUST SWITCH BACK FROM PUBLIC TO PRIVATE!
OR CHANGE THE PUBLIC SETTINGS.

IMPORTANT:

Hi

Since I installed Windows 10 Pro I get exactly the same windows as seen in previous conversations.
I can only exit or I can see About WD Quick view. I had Windows 10 Home before and did not have this issue

Same here. Was working, Now it’s not. Anybody know how to fix??

Hi everyone I’m also having this exact issue. After being told by WD support to use the software as part of an official fix to my issue, I can’t get anything out of it outside of the About screen.

I’ve originally tried it on windows 10, than seeing that only supported versions are windows 8.1 or earlier, I’ve installed it on windows 7 with identical results.

I made sure that my network settings are set to home and I’m using a hard wired connection (Ethernet, not wifi)

To those who’ve seen this software working: Is it worth while trying to troubleshoot this? What kind of troubleshooting is available via this app which cannot be done over the internal management website?

Thanks,
Gene

@ebGene

As a troubleshooting step, you can try disabling your Windows firewall. If the drive shows up in Quick View, then you know that you’ll need to “allow” Quick View to work in your firewall security settings. You may have to do the same with your antivirus, also. You can write rules or create exceptions depending on how your settings work.

@Bill_S thank you for the suggestion, I’ve disabled the firewall, restarted computer and left quick view running for about 30 minutes. No luck :frowning:

I’m assuming that when you restarted your computer, that image shows that the firewall was still disabled? If so, then there still could be other things causing it to be blocked. It could be your antivirus or other security settings, or the way your network is set up. I’m not an network specialist, so I wouldn’t be able to take you any further. You should contact support again and see what they say.
