Problem installing WD SmartWare

I was running WD Smartware (2.0 i think, not sure - have been using WD software for years) and saw there was an update. Tried to install. The installation fails.

Tried removing the old software and then installing again. Still fails.

I am running under an administrative account on Windows 7 Pro and also using the “run as administrator” feature on the setup exectuable.  The installation proceeds along until it gets near the end when it says “updating registry” values and then fails.  Attached is a screen shot. What needs fixing?

I would recommend a registry clean-up before attempting to install the WD SmartWare solution. Unfortunately, it would appear there are keys not fully removed from your system.

Perhaps the Microsoft Fix It utility could be of help.
