Missing Data, unallocated drive

{I am a newbie, please help!} I have a My Book Essential 2tb 3.0 hard drive that went unrecognized by my computer(pc) out of nowhere. In disk mngr it shows up as a wd hard drive as unallocated(no drive letter though). I ran a program from Seagate for file recovery as a demo and all the data shows up, mostly photos and videos of my kids. Seagate wants to charge for the actual recovery, but my question is if they can see it with their recovery software, doesn’t WD have something I could use to recover my files?(I am not very comp literate), any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

This looks like a corrupted partition. It may be possible to still extract the data utilizing data recovery software. Western Digital does not provide data recovery software. However, there are several kinds of Data Recovery software available. If you do a  web search for  Data Recovery  it will yield plenty of data recovery software options
