hello, today i buyed an usb 3.0 hub for my computer, installed it on my computer like it says on user guide, then i plug in my western digital my passport 500gb 3.0 to the usb hub 3.0, when i copy files to my hdd its 2.0 speed so i was wondering if you can please help me out.
Hi a usb 3 hub will only work at usb 3 speed if the hub is plugged into a usb 3 port on the pc. If you have the usb 3 hub plugged into a usb 2 port on your pc that is the speed you will get.
how come in my user guide says i need a y cable not a b cable to get faster speeds?

Hi well it may not say anything but it is the same with any part example a sata 3 hard drive plugged into a sata 2 port will get sata 2 speeds. A video card that is pcie 3 in a pcie 2 slot will get pcie 2 speeds. So if your usb 2 port only puts out throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s how can the hub reach usb 3 speeds it can only put out the speed that is sent to it.
