I will try that and report. In fact, this is not much of a problem. Only rarely does a program “disconnect” or cease to function. I just hear the momentary two “beeps” as if auto-play is identifying the drive. I have disabled “auto play” and do not get the menu of options, but still occasionally those “beeps.” It is probably not a good idea to install programs to folders on an external drive, but that is what I have done because of the limited space on the internal SSD drive.
As I mentioned the driver did not work on first installation. It required a patch from Asus. Evidently this was a known problem since Asus had the patch readily available. Now that it is working for the most part I have some hesitation to remove or disable the driver. I will be in a “watch and see” mode.
