WD My Passport Essential SE 1 TB does not work!

My latest possession stated above, purchased on 30 April 2010 from Muscat, Oman, does not work.  After a few hours of successful installation on OS Windows 7 and Windows XP i copied upto 10 % of its capacity.  The next time i connected it, the system does not recognize it although the drive is ok.  I formatted it once on a prompt and then again copied data.  However, the second day it again failed to recognize the disk and the data are inaccessible.  It was terribly disappointing and I am frustrated.  The after sales support on the pullout sounded impressive, but being in this part of the world, I don’t know if my problem can be solved.  Please help.

Since there’s been no replies, maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

I have the same problem. How sad is it when you rely on backup s/w and it doesn’t work? I plug my Passport Essential in, unlock it and it doesn’t show any backed up data in the retriece tab.

I’m reminded of the old engineering joke about write only memory (WOM).
