WD External HDD - MAJOR ERROR

Hi all

My WD 500gb external hard drive is full of all my important family images and has stopped working!

When I plug it into any laptop or pc, the hard drive whirrs into life and the light flashes but nothing at all pops up on the screen to say that it has been recognised.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried another USB cable?

Different cable didnt work.  Is there anyway to have the unit repaired?

I am having the same problem.  It shows up in the WD Smartware, but shows a message that says “No writeable WD Smartware partition found”.  I have tried everything and need to know what else I can do to access the data on the drive.  It worked a few weeks ago!!!
