WD Elements wont connect, please help!

I bought the WD Elements (1078) and it is completely unrecognisable to my computer? It is telling me that there is no installer software and there is no way to even access it or transfer files to it? PLEASE HELP!

Hello MrShmow, welcome to the WD Community. The WD Elements line of hard drives don’t require any software to work on your PC. Have you tried to manually add the Elements drive letter? Also be sure to connect the USB cable directly to the PC, avoid using extension USB cables or USB hubs. Check the link below for more information on how to add a drive letter.

How to change the drive letter assignment in Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP or 2000

i don’t think it’s a drive letter assignment issue … i’ve had that problem, and the drive just doesent “appear” in Windows 7 (ie. No errors … but the drive is there in computer management > disk management)

Looks like more of a USB driver issue since Windows 7 has encounted an “Error”

I would recommend installing the WD SES Driver 1st, and then connecting the WD Elements USB Hdd.
