I am sorry for replying late.
Yes I have tried all those things. I have tried with 2-3 different cables. Tried a different USB external drive with the same cable as well and it works.
I have attached the drive alone and with other USB drives as well but it did not work 
Also i have tried different USB ports as well. I also tried opening on different computers, one with Windows 7 and one with XP.
