Passport 1 TB mounting issue

Hello,

I have a 1TB passport that won’t mount. the WD unlocker shows up on the desktop and allows me to enter the password but then nothing. I ran the disk utility and that said in red letters that i need to update the firmware but it also says back up what you can, I can’t back up anything. Is my data on the drive lost? or can i run the firmware update and might the data still be there?

Hello, it is possible that the files saved on the Passport are corrupted, with the help of a data recovery program you should be able to recover most of your files and then format the Passport to use it normally again. Using Google you can find several options.

so what if i can’t even see the files and the WD smartware ap says the drive is empty?

Try enabling show hidden files and see if anything shows then.
