Need help with retrieve process

just had my laptop updated to Windows 7 and in the process they forgot to reload my music and photos.

I have them backed up fortunately.  Question -  if I run a backup now and the laptop doesnt have any of my music or photos, will the backup file on my passport be amended to delete the music and photos, or it will remain in the backup file and there will be a gap in size of files on laptop v´s passport hard drive, until I run a retrieve?

If you successfully backed those files it will still be in the passport.
