What to try when your computer won’t read or view your Passport external hard drive:
First try different USB ports
Try differrent cables
Try different computers
Use WD Lata Lifeguard Diagnositc software to check the hard drive. This seems to work fine even when your computer doesn’t seem to view the hard drive or read any of the data on it.
If the drive passes the extended tests try using a Linux Live CD program to view the files on the Passpsort Drive.
I can view mine fine using an old PC Live LInux program.
If they are worth saving, copy them to a USB stick or another external Hard Drive. You may need to try several different ones to find ones where your can mount the drives and have permission to copy the files.
Once you retrieve them make two copies on different storage media to preserve them.
