I have a 500G My Passport that is not recognized (the power light does come on) on my front usb 3.0 (asus usb 3.0 front panel box connected to 19pin mainboard header) but is recognized if connected to usb 3.0 on rear of board. My Seagate 500G usb 2.0 is recognized however.
Mmmm that sound like a faulty pin for the front USB port on your computer or it might be that the front USB is not providing enough energy, is always recommended to use the back USB port because of that. Remember to always use the cable that came with your Passport bc the longer the cable the less energy your passport will get.
So is there anyway to fix the faulty pin?
