My Passport not displaying correct size, 50GB gone

Hi,

I have a 750GB My Passport. Either I’ve been lied to and this is not the actual size OR I have a problem has I’ve precisely used 680GB but it’s indicating that I only have 15GB left…

Where are the other 50GB gone? I’ve sweeped the HD with Omnidisk to verify, there’s indeed only 680GB used but there is no trace or hidden file with the missing 50GB?

Any as to why, where or how to reclaim this space, and I precise that I absolutely don’t want to erase or reboot my HD as any bad computer guy would tell you too, the reason I have this HD drive is because I don’t have space anywhere else to put my 680GB of data in…

Thanks!

It’s a numbers game  http://www.diskview.com/disk-size-discrepancy.htm Your size sounds about right.

I know the “size game”, except the size displayed by both the system and the hard-drive are counted the same.

In fact in other partition and other My Passport, there is no size discrepancy. And gaps between displayed and announced size generally varies by 5 to 10GB max, not 50GB or else this would be a crookery.

It may have a virtual CD on it which takes up space and is undeletable.

A 50GB Virtual CD? That’s a joke?

Well an internal nominal 750 G drive shows as 698 G formatted.  https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0LEVzPT6MlTBX4Ag0JXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzcDBoZWVpBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMwRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1ZJUDA3N18x?qid=20090722074439AA5kgQl

Ok I understand, so basically Western Digital is lying and advertising 750GB drives which are in reality 698GB drives…

No one but Microsoft, wrongly counts bytes with base 1 because they exist since the 1024 bytes memory era. Western Digital does not, and especially today, especially for Gigabytes, it is crookery to advertise drive with GBs…

No all the hd manufacturers do it.
