LED Flashes Every Second Continuously

The LED on my Passport [WDBKXH5000A] flashes continuously, every second. Timed it with my watch.

From the User Manual I know that fast flashing (approx. 3x per second) means the drive is reading or writing; and slow flashing (approx. every 2.5 seconds) means the drive is in standby. The behavior I am seeing is neither of those. The LED flashes every second, continuously, 24x7 unless the drive is reading or writing.

What is the meaning of this?

[The Passport is plugged in to a USB 3.0 port of a laptop running Windows 8. The laptop is on AC power at all times the the Passport is connected.]

Hello,

  • Is the drive operating normally?

  • Are you able to see the drive in the Disk Management screen?

  • If you connect the drive to another computer does the LED light exhibits the same behavior?
