Can't finish installation, start backup on passport portable

I  had a lot of trouble bring a new device up to speed.  I can get to the display with home, backup etc. tabs at the top, and pictures of the amount of space used on the backup device and the hard drive.  However, the backup tab is dark, and won’t do anything when I click on it.  No backup has occurred, according to the display.

What do I have to do to start the backup?  I’m planning to take over quite a bit, and I’d like to get it started.

Are you able to see your drive on Disk Management? If so, is the drive allocated?

Try to install the latest version of Smartware, is available for download on the WD website.
