1Tb hard drive not showing files, prompting for a reformat --- HELP?!?!

I have a 1 TB drive.  Was working fine and then all of a sudden has died.

When it is plugged into USB port it shows up as a drive, but when I try to open it it freezes up.

I tried a new cable (after reading some of the helpful posts on this forum), and when it tries to open it now prompts me to reformat several times (have always clicked cancel) and then give my a message along the lines of ‘data redundency check failure’, or something like that.

5 years of my wifes key data and family photos.  This disk was the back up, but along the way became the primary storgage with no back up.

Do i have any hope of restoring files?

Please help??

Hi,

Sorry but is seems you have a corrupted partition and the computer is asking you to format the drive in order to use it again. However, formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.

Please click on the link below for more information on how to recover your data.

What OS are you using? Sometimes a corrup drive can be repaired. If you are considering professinal recovery don’t try anything else.
