My Cloud 4 TB is very loud

Hi at all,

since one week I have the 4 TB Version of the My Cloud. Everything works but I have one problem: Everywhere you can read, how silent the My Cloud is. But I can’t follow this, because my ‘My Cloud’ is very loud. It is so loud that I have to put it in a closed cabinet and it is still to hear.

Is this “normal” for the 4 TB? You can read a many about the 3 TB Version, but less about 4 TB.

Sorry for the noise in the background! The My Cloud is in Standby and I waked it up by clicking in a directory. Then I started to copy a file into it. That’s why at the beginning it is louder, get silent and after then louder. I hold the iPhone approx. 10 cm above the My Cloud.

From the recording, it is indeed much louder than my unit.

Has anybody else some experiences with the 4 TB Version of the My Cloud?

No… How can I do this?

I had run the self-test on the dashboard a few minutes ago and waiting for the results. Is it the same?

In the last hours I have the impression, that it is not as loud as it was to the begin. And it depends a lot of the noise around. But I have a extra-silent PC and in the late evening hours, when it is silent in the room, the noise is disturbing.

I installed Putty but I do not know which command I need exactly to type in… I get always ERROR: smartctl requires a device name as the final command-line argument.

I started the test last night at 1:00 approx. and the first time I put the command in was approx. 8:00 this morning. In the night was nobody who could interrupt the power, we also had no blackout or something like this. Maybe it was a backup with SmartWare ore something like this.

I will try again tonight and turn off any backups.

So may I am really too sensitive about the loudness?

I put it in the cabin again but then the speed is very low (about 7 Megabytes/s), when I had connected it to the Hub where my PC is also connected to, I get speed up to 50-70 Mb/s! But these may a problem because I am using DLAN, dont know.

maybe it was aborted because some backups were active. I cancelled all backups and startet again 2 nights before.

What could also be shown is a test I started via the UI and aborted after 10 minutes.

 What I want to say about google: I found a few commands but every commands end with sdc instead of sda and this was the problem why I got the response Device Not Found!

At this time I putted the WD in the cabin again because it was always too loud (instead of standby, of course). But it is in another room and my PC is connected via DLAN. Now it is very slowly (app. 7 Mbyte/sec). As it was connected to the same Switch as my PC is connected, the speed was up to 50-70 MByte/sec.
