Can't connect to My WD Cloud using android app in LAN

Hi,

I’m unable to connect to my cloud drive from my WiFi connection.  I’m able to do so remotely and locally from my Windows laptop.  The app always rejects my password which I have verified using my remote connection.

Thanks,

Roberto

Try by using the Mobile Access Key (12-digit code generated by the Cloud drive via the UI) instead.

I have the exact same issue. On a galaxy s5 with wifi it tells me my password to my account is constantly wrong. On 4glte it allows me to connect to my wd cloud device however I can’t do anything. Any action “fails” with Unable to connect to device (0)

what version of android are you running… I’m on 4.4.2

  • User does not have permission
  • admin user can’t  connect to my cloud drive on Ipad mini2 and HTC One X

This issue is currently under investigation.

We will report back in this thread once more information is available.

Thanks for your patience.

I read about the changes that have happened to Android now that these new phones have KitKat installed.  This new OS is now blocking any third party apps from receiving downloads and prevents them from writing data to an SD card.  It is a well documented issue that WD will not be able to fix unless Google fixes the Android software.

There’s an article i read that explains file permission issues with KitKat here…  http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes

It seems that Google is taking its once trusted open source OS and trying to either do away with SD cards or just make life more difficult.

That’s not what the article you linked to says…

It says the KitKat OS does not prevent apps from writing to the SD card.   It prevents them from writing into folders not owned by the app.

I re-read your response carefully.  Your second sentence is pretty much the gist of it.  It prevents apps from writing into folders not owned by the app.  Which means unless the OS grants permission to the app to write, then it wont write.  In our case, the function to save music or photos or videos from the WD My Cloud app wont work because the OS is preventing the app from creating a new folder preventing it from saving files to the phone.

But I’ve found a solution for Galaxy S5 and Note 3 users (practically anyone on KitKat).  But it requires that you root your phone.

Step 1:

If you download the TowelRoot apk from http://towelroot.com, this will root your KitKat device.  Reference link below:

Step 2,

In the App store, download the app SDFix, made by NextApp,Inc.  This will now unlock the app permissions that Kitkat created in the Android OS.    Reference link below:

I had the same problem - I found that it was because there was no password set for the user even though a password was set for the account…it sounds complicated. Log in to the WD My Cloud Web Interface on your desktop browser (

http://WDMyCloud

) and under users check to see if the password option is toggled ON (under USERS). In my case it wasn’t, but when I specified a password for the user it worked on my Galaxy S5:

Thank you Lithic, worked like a charm!
