Can I share backed up files?

Hi all,

I’m looking at purchasing a MyCloud Drive so I can access my music and picture files over multiple devices and to some other users.

For a specific reason, I want to keep my original picture files on my PC HDD and have them backed up to the Mycloud drive. Would I still be able to share these “backed up” files from the MyCloud or are they in a different kind of format that means they can only be shared if the original jpg files reside on the MyCloud rather than on my PC?

Many thanks!

Steve

No, you need to have the JPG files, not backup files.  Backup files are usually some proprietary “bundle” of files that only the backup software can use.

But they don’t need to be the ORIGINAL’s, so to speak…  they can be copies.

Thanks Tony, that’s what I thought and like you say, I’ll just have to make a copy of the jpgs do I can share them in addition to a backup of what’s on the HDD.

In the same vein I’m guessing I can backup whatever I choose to store on the MyCloud device to a different volume on the same device (whilst obviously accepting the lack of redundancy)?

Sure.
