NETWORKDRIVE daemon.err afpd[14405]: dsi_tcp_open: invalid header message on My Book World Edition

I've been  suspecting that the performance of My Book World Edition (white light) is being impacted. My backups to the drive appear to be taking longer than ever without much of an increase in the amount of data being written to the drive.

I went & checked the log and what I see is lots and lots of the following message appearing

NETWORKDRIVE daemon.err afpd[14405]: dsi_tcp_open: invalid header

Does this mean my drive has major hardware problems and is about to die on me? Is there anything I can do other than getting a new disk?

Thanks.

I am having the same errors reporting on my system log.  Did you ever find solution to this?

I think WD needs to update Netatalk for this to work properly.

This appears to be a transmission issue over your network with regards to AFP.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

What is "Netatalk" and "AFP"? The device had been working perfectly for a considerable amount of time and then all of a sudden I noticed that my backup times writing to the disk had blown-out considerably.

[ Edited ]

My bad.

AFP is the Apple File Sharing Protocol.

Netatalk is the community-based implementation of this protocol.

To help you with this, open up your Mac and navigate to Applications > Utilities > Console.

Open Console, click All Messages and filter out the following three seperate things:

Finder

backupd

time machine

afp

network

Look for any times when backups start and then when they start going slow.

Paste any relevent results, but be careful to remove any personally identifiable information.
