adding RAM to computer

I am getting ready to change the amount of RAM in my laptop, going from 512mb to 2Gb how can I do this and make sure I dont lose any files? When I remove the memory stick will I still be able to plug my pasport back in and retrieve all my data onto the new memory sticks? Can someone tell me how to do this?

                                                                      Thanks alot,

Re: adding RAM to computer

You do realize that RAM doesn't store ANY FILES, right?
