WD and acer

Hi, i have an acer 9810 laptop. it came with two120gb internal hdd's, one of which i changed to a 320gb drive for docs. the old 120g drive had a new install of vista put on it.
on the weekend i got a new WD 500gb drive. i copied docs to new drive and then i used acronis to copy new install to 320gb drive. all was well for two days then laptop cant read WD drive, win or bios, if i connect WD drive with usb i can see it.
if i put 120gb drive in laptop along side WD all is ok..

 i re-copied 120gb (new install) to 320gb drive and put along side WD again and still cant see it.

when i boot with 120gb & WD i can see both drives in boot info before win starts, if i boot with 320gb & WD i dont see this info.

hope you can help, this is driving me mad.
