Drive not recognized correctly in BIOS

I have a WD740ADFD that I moved from one PC to another. The new PC recognized the drive as a WD500BB. When I put the drive back in the original PC, it is still recognized as a WD500BB. Any ideas on how to fix this would be helpful. Thanks.

Aside from the model number change, do you have any other problems?

If you install the drive's PM2 jumper so that it powers up in standby (PUIS), does the BIOS identify it any differently?

ISTM that your drive has an internal fault, possibly a firmware issue. The following online tool can perform a free remote diagnosis.

MAVR_R and MAVR_FL should work for your drive.

Note that you will need to configure your SATA controller for legacy IDE mode in your BIOS. This is because MAVR_R expects to see an ISA IDE controller on port 1F0 or 170.

I also noticed partition size has changed from 74GB to 40GB in the BOIS. It has one NTFS partition and it is inaccessible. The drive spins up and has no unusual noises. I'm going to see if it may be a problem with the firmware.
