TV problem WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB

I can't get my Sony NX813 TV to recognise my drive even though I have updated the drive and the TV firmware and software.

I have read about people using their drives with Samsung TV's but can find no mention of Sony.

Most grateful for any help.

If this is a drive with Smartware it may not work because of the VCD on it. Also check and see that it has the correct format for your video setup.  See post 3

Re: TV problem WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB

Thanks for your help Joe.

I think my drive has smartware on it as it automatically backs everything up.

I don't know what VCD means - please excuse my ignorance.

As for format, I recently could not get my drive to operate properly on my new computer, so after some reseach it appeared I had to erase the drive and re-install the software.

This seemed to work but I have no idea if it is NTFS or Fat32.

My new computer is running Windows 7 64 bit,but I'm not sure if this is relavent.

Also my drive did not work with the TV before or after re-installing the software.

Still a bit puzzled.

Fat32 and NTFS are the Windows file systems. Most of the TV only operate with Fat 32, which means you need to make your drive compatible with the TV by changing the file system. See below how to format your drive:

Look in Disk Management and it will show you the information about the HD. To get into Disk Manager right click on Computer then click Manage. VCD is virtual hard drive. basicallty it's a small aprtition with the software.

Re: TV problem WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB

Thanks Awopero and Joe,

I'll work on your suggestions.

If I reformat to FAT32 to be compatible with the TV, does that mean I can no longer use it with the automatic backup as I do now on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop?

Perhaps I need one passport for TV use and one for auto backups on my PC?

As an aside, I have found that I can stream pictures and videos to my TV wirelessly, but I was hoping to have all my pictures and videos on my WD so I could plug it in directly to the TV.

Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Anyway,I'm very grateful for your help!
