My book essential 2tb dead?

Hello there.

could someone help with advice? I have a MB E which appears to be dead.

Used 5 mill. kb and 13 % cpu and still did not back up. (There was an image until I recently formatted the drive)

Thought perhaps if I formatted the drive, it would go back to work, but no. Formatted using  both wd formatter and later Easeus Partionmaster.

Still in wd smartware there seems to be files on the drive, but  checking the windows path, "wd drive", the drive is empty?

the unit still uses the same power as beforementioned  and the white led blinks every two seconds.

I'm no expert, so if you have any ides, plese be patient with me :-)

Thanks a lot in advance

Bjarne

Check if you can manually copy data to the drive, without using SmartWare.  You may also check the drive for errors by running an Extended Test using DLG.

Re: My book essential 2tb dead?

Assuming your using either XP or Win 7, once you've formatted the drive Windows will almost immediately place 'System Volume Information' and 'Recycle bin' folders and entries on the drive.  These by default are not visible unless you change your preferences in folder options.

Try the Data Lifeguard diagnostics to find out if the drive is basically fault free.  I so, then a software issue may be the story.  Some of the earlier versions did seem to chew up CPU whilst categorising.  At worst a reinstall wouldn't hurt.
