Simpler power down function access

Since you did not add a power down switch or a power down soft button on the mbl, I have to access the webpage, insert the password, the navigate through the menus, and the select the powerdown function. Can you please add a faster way to do this? I would like to have a power down function on your wd2go mobile app. Or at least a less hidden menu navigation.

Thanks for the suggestion. We have been looking at adding more capabilities to manage the NAS in future updates/products.

While a NAS-Box is a neat idea for storing important files, it is still necessary to perform a regular backup.

Doing so by using an external hard drive can be cumbersome - so most users actually don't do it.

However, in recent years and months, more and more "Online Space providers" appear on the market and offer cloud storage services that would be a PERFECT match for any NAS-system if the NAS was capable of keeping certain directories in sync with the cloud.

Some online storage providers in Europe are actually selling packages like that: buy 1 TB of online storage for 10 EUR per month + get a Synology NAS for 50 EUR on top which is set to automatically keep itself in sync with the online drive.

Advantages:

* Access all files with full speed while being connected to the LAN

* Never worry about a backup - it is constantly taken care of by the NAS

* Fire-proof backup concept: even if your house burns down or thieves steal all IT hardware, your data is still safe in the cloud.

* Access all backed up files through the internet

* Always keep online storage and NAS in sync

* Keep several locations in sync: 1 NAS for each local office + 1 online storage tank = everyone works with the same files.

I would like to propose that the WD NAS boxes should be equipped with a software that

* lets the user enter the access information for such online storage providers

* lets the user choose which shares should be kept in sync with the cloud

* lets the user choose whether or not the synchronized files will be encrypted

* keeps the selected shares in sync with the cloud service

Thank you

Matt

Thanks for the suggestion. Ultimately we will want to have our own solution and experience.

Set partition size for TimeMachine

It would be perfect to have ability to set maximum partition size on MyBook Live, so that Time Machine won't fill up an entire network disk.

Thanks for the idea. Will look at this for future products/versions

Hello,

This is more of a feature request than a problem.  I have recently enabled IPv6 on my network and would like to enable IPv6 on my NAS, and I realize that there are no configuration options to do this right now.  Even if it just was a stateless configuration client, and I was unable to manually set the IPv6 address, I would be happy.

Samba has fully supported supported IPv6 since v3.2 (link here.)

For those of you more curious about IPv6, and how to get it on your home router or PC, please visit http://www.tunnelbroker.net/ for free IPv6 connectivity.  Visit their forums for help with setting it up.

Also this is a wiki page about IPv6: http://ipv6wiki.net/wiki/Main_Page

Thanks very much!

Thanks for the request.

The My Book Live allows to share via web access (so that you can share files with others), but the Public share is always accessible when sharing. I propose to add functionality so that I can share only a provate part of the My Book Live, and NOT the Public party.

The problem is that the Public share is the only share that the WD Photos app can look at, so if I use this app, all photos need to be in the Public folder. But when sharing, I do not want everybody to have access to the Puyblic folder.

Another option therefore would be to add functionality in the WD photos app so that the app can access other (private) shares on the drive.

This is a feature that has been requested. However; it would change the whole permission structure of the drive. No plans in the short term to change this behavior, but it has been requested.
I would like to be able to use my WD ShareSpace as a Time Machine backup under Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). I have ShareSpace connected to my router.

When trying to perform the initial backup, I am getting this error:
"The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."

After doing some research, I learned that this means that the software of the drive does not support some features required for Time Machine. Apple document for Time Machine support can he found here (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/NetworkingInternetWeb/Conceptual/TimeMachineNe...

web interface to download files

I have tried the network drive produced when you connect to your drive with the web interface.  It takes a really long time to just gather the list of files when you click on a folder.  Sometimes, I just want to download a single file.  It would be much less taxing on network resources and quicker to provide a simple web interface to browse files and download them.

Thanks for the idea. We have actually been thinking about ways to include a feature like this in future products.

Update Twonky Media Server to correct music sort order in folder view

Status: Acknowledged
by ‎12-01-2010 11:46 AM - edited ‎12-01-2010 11:47 AM

the sort order in in MyBookLive Twonky Server is a bit strange.
I connect via a DLNA Client and go to:
"MyBookLive-Twonky -> Music -> Folder -> <<ARTIST>> -> <<ALBUM>> ->
Then I can see for example the single tracks of an album.
The sort order here is alphanumeric by tracktitle (id3 tag).
I think it should be sortet by id3 tracknumber or at least alphanumeric by filenames like in Photo mode.

Please fix this issue via firmware upgrade

You need to explain a little better what you are looking for here.

iPhone 4 App for Music Streaming

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎06-15-2011 08:04 AM

I love the WD app for my iphone4 that allows me to stream all of my photos stored on my WD Worldbook Network Drive.  Why is there not a similar app to allow me to stream all of the music files stored on my WD as well?  This is an important feature to most of us spending more than $100.00 on a network drive.  I hope you are upgrading the WD photos App to work with the music or are planning to create a new app to allow for this.

Thanks for the suggestion. There are plans for something to do this. Timing is in the next two months.

We are looking into adding this in.

DropBox integration

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎10-28-2011 04:05 AM

Have the ability for the MyBook Live to integrate with a DropBox account.

The idea is that it is possible so associate any share and associated files and sub-directories with a user specified directory within the DropBox.  This would allow backing up several `shares` to one DropBox account.

I know that it would be argued what WD2GO offers remote access but the advantage of DropBox is that for very important files there is a 100% fully synchronised back-up, which WD2GO does not provide.

Not everyone will wish to back-up/snapshot the entire contents of the MyBook Live (like films that might already exist on DVDs) but will wish to have a real-time and synchronised back-up of their more dynamic files.

Recycle Bin

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎08-15-2011 10:06 AM

Is it possible for WD to create a recycle bin option for the MBL? I'm thinking of something that users could turn on or off in the dashboard. I'm sure some of us don't like the fact that files are gone forever when deleted, and I notice that some other NAS drive manufacturers have recycle bins. It would be great if this was connected to the regular Windows recycle bin, although that is not necessary. (On the other hand, some users with backup configurations etc. probably don't want this, hence the on-off request).

Thanks.

We have thought of this before, but as of now it is not part of any roadmaps. Will talk to people internally.

USB 2.0 connection for NAS copying

It would be great if you could copy files via USB 2.0 or 3.0 to the NAS dirve, especially for the initial mass copying of files.

My Book Live via AppleTV

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎02-14-2011 10:25 AM

I know a lot of people that have AppleTV and My Book Live seem like they would go hand in hand. AppleTV needs to see that Home Sharing is enabled on a MAC Itunes Library to access it, is there a way that My Book Like would be able to have that feature or be allowed to be seen by an AppleTV?

This would be highly beneficial than having my Mac / PC Itunes on at all times to listen and watch my Itunes information. We all know it has a built in Itunes server, but AppleTV cannot view it.

This would be a great idea if it were not for the closed ecosystem that Apple lives in.
