HELP! firmware update failing constantly

Hi,

I just got a my passport wireless. After connecting for the first time tryed to install the firemware update 1.04.06 (6/2015). The device now has 1.01.09. Tryed every which way – automatically, manuallyand via SD Card. But it always fails to install. There is a pop-up window telling me “Updating Firmeware” it shows me 10 % progress but thenthe blue progress bar disapaers and it all goes back to grey. The pop-up window is still there, telling me not to power off etc … BUT nothing seems to be happeing. No flashing light or anything on the device itself either.

I left it on for hours, even over night – nothing …

Am on a Mac book Pro OS X 10.8.5 and yes, am connected to the internet.

SD Card is formated FAT32 – yes the update is in a separte folder called “update”

What can I do?

Hello and welcome to the WD community.

Try to reset the device to see if after resetting it you can do the update on the device. Here is a link to the users manual page that will help with his procedure:

Thank you for the advice especially to look at the manual again. Hadn’t thought of it  becaue the instruction could be found on the wd website with the firmware update download.

http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfmp_wireless

But in the manual i found the one important sentence:

“You can only update if the battery is more than 50 percent charged and the charger is plugged in to power.”

That seemed to have been the problem. Maybe this sentence could be added to the instruction on the website?

Thanks again.
