iPhoto library on My Book Live

Hello,

I have a iPhoto library for each year and want to move the old ones from my MacBook to my My Book Live.

Copying the libraries hasn’t worked several times (process stops at 47MB of 4GB).

Can iPhoto libraries not be used with the My Book Live? HERE seomone writes that it cannot work properly because the MBL cannot be formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled)?

That would be unfortunate, because having iPhoto Libraries was one of the main reasons i bought the MBL.

bromm,

This is a limitation imposed by Apple that affects most Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices regardless of the manufacturer, as they must be optimized for networking file systems while Apple mandates Mac OS Extended for the iPhoto Library.

Just make a large sparse bundle disc image on the MBL, then mount it, and use it for your iPhoto library…

Thank you for that hint, but I don’t know how to do that.

Could you provide instructions (or a helpfull link)?

Use disk utility-

Create image-

Choose your network drive location-

Choose maximum size of image you want

Choose sparse bundle disk image as format of image, can choose to encrypt too if desired-

Hit create.

Double click the file.sparsebundle on the network drive to mount the image

Copy your iphoto library into it

google should help find articles to further explain the steps…
