Will upgrading Twonky allow me to see mp4 files?

If I upgrade Twonky to 7.x (currently 5.1.9), will it start sharing my .mp4 videos?

I swear to god nothing is easy is it.  I have a hundred home videos in .mp4 format and thought mybooklive would be a great way to host those for viewing from my other networked devices.  Imagine my frustration when I looked for them from my WD TV Live and all it shows me is .wmv files - of which I have 10 or so.  Come on WD seriously whiskey tango foxtrot.

Anyway, will paying $20 for the license and upgrading to twonky 7.x resolve this for me or just cause me 2 hours of pain and a waste of $20?

Thanks

Hello

On my MBL Duo, I have installed twonky 7, and my H264 mp4 and m4v video files are perfectly handled. But maybe your codec is not supported by your media player.

So I cannot be 100% sure it would works for you. The best would be to open your files with MediaInfo to check if codec is supported

I addition, I would add:

  • twonky 7 installations takes only 10 minutes

  • you can test it fully (no limitations) during 1 month before you buy the licence

guide is here

I personally bought the licence 2 weeks after flawless tests

I have no issues with Twonky 5.1.9 and MP4 files…  So there’s something non-version-specific going on in your case.

What could it be?  The mp4 files don’t even show up on my WD TV Live Plus.  Other file types do show up.

Browse the Twonky web manager

http://[ip address of your MBL]:9000

For example:

http://192.168.1.30:9000

… and see if they show up there.

Thanks, yes they do show up in my web browser!  So what does this tell me - that my client, the WD Live Plus box, won’t recognize them?  I have the latest firmware in that box I am positive - upgraded it recently, and certainly it is supposed to play mp4, mkv, and everything else - the only thing that little box has going for it in the marketplace is its supposed ability to play almost any format…   What else could be wrong?

Wow, okay, so I putty’d over to the box, stopped twonky, then restarted it, and now - viola, they are visible.

So what is broken such that Twonky didn’t find the new files and make them visible without me having to stop/start the service?  The files have been there days at least.
