Why is the time machine share public by default

Hi,

Does anyone know why the time machine share on my My Cloud device is public by default?

I’m afraid one of my kids would accidentally delete time machine backups.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a dedicated time machine user and make the share private or does this create other problems?

Thanks in advance!

Because it is easier for 99% of users?

Most people won’t bother with private shares at all. If you pay attention, all default shares are public I believe.

However, I did setup a private share for it on the dashboard.

Anyhow, just create a private share and set it up. Check manual for more info.

Ok, thanks a lot.

I made the default timemachine-share private, created a dedicated user “timemachine” with full access to the share and everything worked fine.
