Why WD 2go?

Hi,

Is there a technical reason why the remote access has to be via the WD 2go site?

Is it not possible to access the MBL directly from a remote system without going through the WD 2go site?

Also, does any of the content form MBL go through the WD 2go site when being viewed or modified remotely?

Hi,

I use FTP, much faster and more reliable than WD2go. You can enable it on the UI interface and access with any FTP client.

WD 2go is not mandatory, but is very useful.

For example, my IP resets every other month or so. I provide a WD 2go login to my brother (who has no computer skills) and he can always access the drive, even if the IP changes.

It’s also really useful for quickly accessing files when you travel.

Finally, it’s a lot more secure than FTP is.

All that being said, it does have its limitations and can be slow sometimes.
