Twonky in Dashboard won't play .mp4 files

Twonky won’t recognize .mp4 files on MyBookLive, but will play .avi files OK.

I notice on the forums that some people can play .mp4 files, albeit rather slowly, but I can’t get Twonky to recognize any of my .mp4 files.

The same .mp4 files will play if I copy them to a USB stick and insert this into the USB socket on my Denon Blu-Ray player.  However, if I select Twonky on the BluRay player instead of USB input, Twonky just can’t see the .mp4 files, even though they are in P:(\MyBookLive)\Shared Videos folder.  Twonky can see and play all the .avi files in this location.

I have updated the firmware to the latest firmware several days ago.

Browse to the twonky webserver using a browser.  Use the same URL that you use to get to the MBL web page, but add :9000 to the end of the name.

From there, go to Media Browser, and see if your videos appear there.

Sorry- but none of my .mp4 files appear here as well.  Why not?  How do I get .mp4 files to play using MyBookLive and Twonky?  They don’t show up in Twonky.

I have also tried to copy them to the folder ‘Shared Vieos’, but they still don’t show up in Twonky or in http://mybooklive:9000.

Hi, make sure you’ve set up your shares folder for all types of files, if you just have it set for video only then it doesn’t pick up mp4 files.

Thanks for your comment.

I’m not real good with Shares, but I looked in Dashboard and found 4 Shares with share detail as listed:

Public: Media Serving all; (this is where I copy all my video files, incl. .mp4 files, to).

Geoff: Media Serving all; Share access: Private (I set this up but I don’t know how to use it).

SmartWare: Media Serving none; Share access: Public (don’t know what this is used for)

TimeMachineBackup: Media Serving none; Share access: Public (don’t know what this is used for)

I don’t know how to set up Shares, so any help that might solve this problem would be appreciated.

In that same Twonky management page, select MAINTENANCE (The Wrench icon)

Then the MAINTENANCE menu item (in text on the left)

Then click the REBUILD DATABASE button.

Go into the twonky server setup

http://mybooklive:9000/config

Go to sharing in basic setup, and next to the ticked folder, ensure that it’s set to “all content types” in the drop down menu.

Thanks for this advice.  I have done what you say, and can confirm that both /Geoff and /Public say ‘all content types’.

I have also clicked on ‘Rescan content directories’, and will see if this makes any difference to seeing .mp4 files in Twonky.

Just to add to this- I have checked in TwonkyMedia (in http://mybooklive:9000), and still can’t see .mp4 files that I put there.
