Transferring files between WDTV Live Hub and WD My Book Live - So slow!

Hi all, looking for some advice please. I recently purchased a 3TB WD My Book Live to expand my storage space. Currently I centralize all my photos, music and videos on a 1TB WDTV Live Hub and would like to transfer all the files from this to the new MBL (approx 700Gb).

Both drives are connected to the network using LAN cables. To date I have been transferring one folder at a time by opening both the WDTV and the MBL on my laptop (connected via WiFi) and dragging and dropping from on to the other. This works but it is soooo… slow and tedious, each folder can take up to several hours to move across and there are hundreds of folders to be transferred.

Any suggestions on a more effective way to do this would be appreciated.

Well, you need to determine which link of the chain is slow.

If you’re seeing about 7-11 Mbytes/second, then that’s the Hub “bottleneck.”  That’s about the most it can manage.

If you’re seeing much worse than that, you can try copying the files from the Hub to your PC, and note the transfer time.

Then transfer from the PC to the MBL.

Which is the slow link?
