Time Machine file appears locked

Hello,

I have a MyBookLive external hard drive and need to restore my files on my Macbook pro after it crashed.

On the drive it shown that I have two time machine folders. One that’s lables “Time Machine” and one that’s labled “Time Machine Back up”. There appears to be nothing in the “Time Machine Backup” folder but there is a file in the “Time Machine” folder labled as my “MacBook Pro”.

This MacBook Pro file has a lock symbol in the bottom left corner and I get a popup saying “no mountable file system” when I try to open it.

Niether Time Machine nor Migration Assistant recognize the “Time Machine” file and only show the “Time Machine Backup” file as an option for restoring my data.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with this?

WD support thinks the file is corrupted but he didn’t sound all that convinced and was quick to want to get me off the phone.

Hi and welcome to the WD Community. The Time Machine backup might be Encrypted, see if the links below help.

Thanks for the help jubei04.

I have seen these before but I checked them again to see if I missed something.

I’m back in touch with tech support so I will see what happens there.

Fingers crossed.
