Stream from Laptop to TV using My Book Live 2TB

I would like to stream what I play on my laptop to my DLNA-enabled TV. Can this be done using my My Book Live 2TB NAS Drive or do I need to purchase a WD Live TV media streamer?

You may not need either of them.

If your TV is a DLNA renderer-class (DMR) device, you can stream directly to your TV from your laptop by doing things like “Play To” from Windows.

If your TV lacks DMR capability, then you’d use a WDTV as the DMR.

TonyPh12345,

Thanks for your reply. Let me just clarify that what I’m interested in doing is not streaming files stored on my laptop to the TV but rather streaming internet content to the TV in real time(for instance play on my laptop a You Tube clip and see it on my TV while is playing), like Apple airplay does through an Apple TV device. Can I do that or do I need a WDTV?

In addition, on your reply you mentioned DMR capability of my TV. My Panasonic Viera TV is DLNA certified for sure  but does that mean is has the DMR capability? How do I check for that?

You can check on the DLNA website.

And no, the WDTV doesn’t support Airplay, or anything like it.
