I used the WD My Book Live to backup 800GB of data. Took about 35 hours for the initial copy and almost a week to restore.
Both the MyBook and the computer are connected on a gigabyte switch!
What is this? A bug or is it normal?
The maximum transfer rate I got to is 3mg/s
Thank you for moving my question to the right board.
not normal, but hard to tell since everyone’s LAN is different…

Are you sure you have a gig switch? even if you did not, it is too slow. But verify it anyhow.

Cables; to get gigabit speeds, you will need a gigabit network (10/100/1000) and cat5e cables at the least.
With wireless, you will never get gigabit speeds.
I have just 10/100, and happy with it.
Wire:
Data; 39.39GB
Time: 1:50:05
Speed: 6404590 Bytes/sec.
Speed: 366.473 MegaBytes/min.
Wireless
Data; 4.66GB
Time: 0:44:11
Speed: 1890589 Bytes/Sec
Speed: 108.80 MegaBytes/Min
If still fails, try bypassing the switch and connect the PC and MBL to the router if possible
If still too slow, try setting a static IP for MBL
last option, try a new switch and/or a new router
Advance option: Set static IPs to both the MBL and PC, connect them directly and also test connected to the switch.
If all still fails, provide model #s for the switch, router, PC nics, your setup, etc.
Hello
Thank you for your reply. My switch and PC are indeed gigabit but I’ll have to check my cables though. I didn’t know you needed a specific cable for this.
I’ll keep you posted!
Thank you
