Set up tablet to stream videos from MBL (UK) on visit to New York

I have an android tablet with WD My Cloud installed and a WD My Book Live. I would like to be able to stream videos stored on the MBL (UK) when I am in New York shortly, where there is high speed wireless. I have put my videos on an sd card and I know I can do it that way, but what is bugging me is that I have tried streaming video on the tablet at a friend’s house where the wireless is high speed too, and nothing but a black screen, even when left for several minutes and I really want it to work.

I’m not sure whether the video software I use makes a difference. I’ve currently tried aVia and QQ Player.

If anyone has made things work in a similar situation I’d be very interested!

First you have to make sure you have an app that supports streaming.

2nd, and this is usually the issue, even when you have a streaming app… You have to take into consideration, the up speed at the location where you are getting the file from. These are usual very slow and not worth for streaming via WAN.

Just to give you an example this is what I have:

25 Mbps download

5 Mbps upload

5 can’t really stream videos, music files are ok. And if you have the access via a secure protocol, even slower.

Thanks for replying. I’m beginning to see what you’re saying re movies. Don’t think it will be possible. Is there an app you would recommend that has worked for you?

More often times than not high speed internet is only fast in terms of retrieving/downloading files, uploading on the other hand is a completely different beast. For example my speeds are  20mbps download and 1.5mbps upload. You need to know what your speeds are at home and see if you upload speed can keep up with what your demanding away from home. If your adamant about wanting to stream files away from home and don’t have the speeds necessary you’re going to have to upgrade your internet to something that has a higher upload speed.  Hope that made sense.

I’ve heard from friends that zumocast does a good job on streaming media out of the house to devices.

Please let me know if I was of any help and don’t forget to hit the kudos button as a way of saying thank you also mark my post as a solution if it solved your problem so that others that are experiencing this issue can come here for a solution.
