Safepoint creation error - 36107 Your Safepoint could not be created due to an invalid request

I have an MBL 2.0TB Single Disk

I’m trying to create a Safepoint on a USB drive attached to my ASUS Router (RT-AC68U).

The MBL can see the USB share I have crceated on the router and I have set up the account and password for the MBL to read/write to the share.

The problem is that I get error 36107 Your Safepoint could not be created due to an invalid request.

every time I proceed to writing the backup. It creates nested folders _WDPROT / WDSAFE in the share but no other folders / files.

This is the second router I have tried this with. I am strongly suspecting an issue with the MBL firmware

(MyBookLive 02.43.03-022 : Core F/W)
