Recover Files

Hello everyone,

First of all sorry for my english, i’m portuguese, but i think i can explain myself. I have a WD My book live 2TB for 6 months now, its my central storage for everything, especially photos, because i’m an amateur photographer but i do severall paid jobs especialy for bands and events… and i work with a pc with windows 7, and a macbook pro with osx mavericks…

for the photos i have a file structure starting in year - subfolder - month - subfolder name of the event, and yeasterday i made a dumb move  i was adding one folder to the year 2013, and 20 folders to the year 2014, and usually i do that on my pc, but yeasterday i did it in mac, and a window appear saying theres allready folders 2014 and 2013 in that location, if i want to replace i clicked yes without blinking, because on the pc theres an option to combine that i usually use… when it ended copying the only folders inside 2014 and 2013 where the new ones i lost all the others (arround 15000 photos), at this point you are thinking you should have backups and i did,i have another NAS from D-link with 500Gb in RAID only to make a automatic backup of all the photos. Unlucky for me we had a storm 2 days ago and burned that NAS…

Long Story short, i googled a lot about this and try several free and trial recover deleted files software and found none abble to recover files from a NAS, the best solution i found so far is open the body of the NAS (wich will make me lose the rest of the warranty, but at this point thats the least of my problem), and plug it in my pc internal and try to recover with some software.

Anyone done this sucessfully?

Do you recomend any software in particular?

Is there a chance of doing by ssh with some linux program? (I’m just guessing here)

My main concern is that i have a lot of things in that drive (1.8TB) and with the other NAS broke, the only space left for bakups i have i used to store the rest of my photos and i didn’t want to lose the rest of the data…

Thank you all for your time, and i’m open to all your suggestions!

I am not aware of a particular application that can assist on this specific case (File overwrite over network), however, on most cases a professional/dedicated Data Recovery service is preferred and recommended for data integrity. Please visit the following link for additional information:

cdpereira,

Sadly do not have any recommendations for your current issue. However, the best tip I can give you is, always have at least two copies of data you cannot afford to lose, for your future needs.
