R-linux help: on the right track?

Hi,

i have been sing my 2 TB MBL since 2011 and needed 3 WMA for bricked dashboards. Luckily i could always still retreive the data by the mapped drive.  But this weekend it finally happened. Broken red light and no access anymore.

Tried all the suggestion on the forums, but alas… nothing.

So I am trying the R-linux (for Windows) approach now and am hoping some pointers to see if I am on the right track here. I saw another thread that was helpful.

So I removed the disk from the MBL and put in a WD case I had.

The thing is that is did see the drive as WDExt HDD 10212021 on the USB with a size of 1,82TB.

I cannot unfold it though. So I started a (quick) scan on the whole disc since I cant choose a certain part.

It is running now, but says it needs 13 days to complete. When i looked this morning it did about 2Gb.

The thing I can’t find in the manual and am worried about is that the log (per sector I guess) says:

Read disk WDExt HDD 10212021 at position 45749760 failed after 1 ateempts. Toegang geweigerd (5)

Toegang geweigerd is Dutch for Access denied.

Is this because the first part of the HDD might be the partition of the MBL that held the OS or somethin and I do not have access?

I read somewhere that the actual data will be in Ext4. Should i just wait until it is finished?

Help and/or poiners are welcome

The drive not expanding and sector errors scare me a bit as it may be indicative of failing hardware. Have you tried a direct SATA connection to see if it makes a difference? The first 4624MB or so are OS, SWAP, MBR/PT. I have a semi informative thread I can point you to (but you may have already read it)

Have you tried DiskInternals Linux Reader?

hi,
I will try that when I get home.
I tried another linux viewer, but that didnt work.
Unable to read or something.
Thanks for your help!

I installed it and it sees the drive in 2 places: Unallocated space and Physical Drives:

Both give this error message though:

In the meantime R-linux log keeps having access problems:

Keep me posted, you are doing it right. My best guess is a failing hard drive or the usb enclosure might be causing the errors.

Okay.

I have a friend that has a computer running on linux.

So if this doesn’t work, sticking it in that computer might be worth a try?

It would be worth a shot but his computer won’t be able to read the MBL data partition because it uses a non standard 65536 blocksize
