Playing movies to WiiMC

Hi folks,

I have WiiMC running on my wii which currently plays movies from an attached HDD. I’d like it to play over WiFi from the MBL.

It’s hopefully similar settings to other media players.

I’m not sure if I have to set anything on the PC or MBL first?

But on the wii it’s asking these things for set up, here’s what I’ve tried:

SMB. also have a FTP option

Display name: anything I like I think
Share IP: the IP of the MyBookLive
Share name: mybooklive (not sure if it needs to be case specific?)
Username: my user for the MyBookLive, I tried the admin access to all folders name.
Password: password for the above user.

So this doesn’t work. Any ideas?

Cheers

Hello, see if the following link helps.

Thanks, but I think it needs to be SMB.

Not really sure as I don’t really understand a lot of this but from what I’ve read WiiMC needs a SMB connection.

Would that make sense?

Say the share that contains your movies is the Public share, for the share name in WiiMC type

Public

If they are in a private share you created named Movies then the share name would be

Movies

and then whatever username and password you setup for the share.

I have never used WiiMC so this is my best guess based on what I know.

EDIT: I installed WiiMC and what I told you works perfect

Don’t expect 720p or 1080p mkv video playback though as it is a slideshow and my WII sits 5 feet from my router (Asus RT-N66U)

XVID and DVD should play though

Hmmm… I did try those options.

I will have try again. I’m slightly more accross MBL live and users and stuff now so I may have more luck.

I was a bit put off as a few people said a hack was needed.

Very encouraging that I know you got it to work with no hack.

Did you use the MBL’s IP address? and is it static by default?

Thanks for your help!

Yes I used my MyBookLive’s IP address

Yes it is a static IP

Excellent news. Will try again when I get home.

I must have done something wrong I was running up and down the stairs and thinking about a hundred other things so quite possible.

Thanks for your help mate

ha ha… love the way I’ve become ‘Advisor’ just because I have no idea what I’m doing and keep posting here

OMG!

Works like a charm.

Thanks so much.

No idea what I did wrong the first time.

Great stuff!

Nfodiz,

Thank you very much!

I have been trying off and on over the past several months - playing with settings in order to try and get my Wii to see my MBL. It was the Share Name that I was messing up on.

I created an account for the forum just so I can hop on and post this note of thanks.

Thanks again!

You’re welcome
