OOTB MBL use 3 GB?

Hi seems like a brand new MBL (2 TB in my case) uses 3 GB of storage

MyBookLive:~# df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
tmpfs                 5.0M     0  5.0M   0% /lib/init/rw
udev                   10M  6.7M  3.4M  67% /dev
tmpfs                 5.0M     0  5.0M   0% /dev/shm
rootfs                1.9G  541M  1.3G  30% /
tmpfs                 100M  3.7M   97M   4% /tmp
ramlog-tmpfs           20M  1.7M   19M   9% /var/log
/dev/sda4             1.9T  2.1G  1.9T   1% /DataVolume
MyBookLive:~#

this post ask the same.

my question

1.is this normal

  1. could I free up some by delete stuff not needed?
  1. That’s completely normal the My Book Live OS reserves those 3GB’s for “configuration purposes”.

  2. Its only 3 Gigs on a 2TB HDD so no I wouldn’t go around deleting anything as you might brick your device and VOID your warranty by doing so. I think the drive is partitioned this way so even if you do start deleting things in the rootfs partition you won’t be adding space on the DataVolume partition which is where the MBL stores your data.

After some more digging MBL drive uses only around 580 MB it seems.

I guess it shows 3 GB used as 2 TB are ‘real’ 1.82 TB or 1,863 GB and the GUI does some translation/calc magic.
